KPIT Technologies and Trentar Energy Solutions have joined forces to advance sodium-ion battery technology, offering a sustainable alternative to lithium-based solutions. This breakthrough technology, developed by KPIT, enhances electric mobility with faster charging, an extended lifespan of 3,000-6,000 cycles, and energy density ranging from 100-170 Wh/Kg. With superior temperature tolerance and enhanced safety, it is ideal for public transportation. two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and energy storage applications like UPS backups and grid storage.

Through this collaboration, KPIT has transferred its sustainable technology to Trentar, which will commercialize it by investing in a 3GWh manufacturing capacity. KPIT will receive upfront technology transfer fees and royalties over eight years, strengthening its position among the few global innovators in sodium-ion battery technology. By using earth-abundant materials, this solution reduces lithium dependency, making electric mobility more affordable and accessible.

Trentar’s strong research, manufacturing, and distribution capabilities will drive large-scale adoption of sustainable mobility solutions across multiple sectors. “With its cost-effectiveness, simplified supply chain, and enhanced safety, sodium-ion technology is a strategic focus for us,” said Subodh Menon, Founder and Vice-Chairman of Trentar. Ravi Pandit, Chairman of KPIT Technologies, emphasized their commitment to building innovative energy storage solutions that reshape the future of mobility.
