The new FASTag rules that came into effect on 17th February 2025 by the National Payments Corporation of India with the aim of improving efficiency.
Here are all the key changes that car owners and two-wheeler owners need to keep in mind:

Transactions from a blacklisted FASTag user will be declined is the user has been blacklisted for more than 60 minutes before reaching the toll plaza and remains blacklisted for 10 minutes afterwards.
The user may be required to pay double.
Even if the user was blacklisted 10 minutes prior to scanning, payment will still be rejected.

FASTag users to ensure they have sufficient balance in their FASTag account, as last-minute recharges may no longer resolve payment issues.

If the toll charges were processed more than 15 minutes after the vehicle passed the toll. However, if this is rectified within 10 minutes after the scan, the user can request a penalty refund.

A 70-minute grace period has been introduced, allowing users to rectify the FASTag status before crossing the toll booth.

Banks will only be able to raise chargebacks for incorrect deductions due to blacklisted or low-balance FASTags after a 15-day cooling period.
