Siemens launches smart parking technology in Germany

German multinational Siemens AG has teamed with parking services provider Streetline to launch a smart parking project in Braunschweigh, Germany. The city has already completed the installation of parking sensors and networking equipment needed for the project. The equipment will monitor real-time data in parking locations to determine availability of parking space. This parking information is then distributed to drivers through Streetline’s free smartphone application ‘Parker’. Parker gives drivers information on location and general availability of parking spaces. This reduces the time drivers have to get parking spaces and thus decreases traffic congestion. The application also shows the remaining parking time left and enables users to pay parking charges through mobile phones. Parker helps city officials manage parking across the city by tracking parking patterns.
