Railways to build more foot overbridges

In order to provide better infrastructure and arrest the problem of increasing accidents on the railway tracks, both the Western Railway (WR) and Central Railway (CR) have decided to build new foot overbridges (FOBs) in Mumbai soon. The WR will construct 40 FOBs while the CR is going in for 10 FOBs across stations. Also, the WR will convert all of its remaining 9-coach rakes to 12-coach rakes. The longer trains put extra pressure on the already strained infrastructure facilities. The foot overbridges is expected to solve that. Every year, on the Western railway tracks alone, nearly 1,500 commuters are killed or seriously injured. It is expected that with the FOBs in place, the commuters will be encouraged to avoid crossing the tracks.
