Nokia launches new Here map application for Apple iOS

Finnish telecommunications major Nokia has released Here, a new mapping and navigation application, for Apple iOS devices. It is available for free on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Here has location and navigation data from around 200 countries. It is based on HTML5 and offers voice-guided step-by-step walk navigation and public transport directions through pedestrian routes and parks. Users also get driving directions, plus satellite, live traffic, offline and public transport line views. The maps used in Here have been supplied by Navteq, the company Nokia acquired in 2007. Data gathered through crowd-sourcing where users update community maps has also been used in Here. Nokia plan to acquire California based firm Earthmine to bolster Here?s 3D map-making capabilities. Other plans include the introduction of a mobile version of Here maps for the new Firefox OS in 2013, and the release of Here SDK for Android OEMs in early 2013.
