Japanese automaker Isuzu Motors has announced plans to set up a new manufacturing plant in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. To be built at a cost of ?1000 crore, it will have a capacity of around 50,000 vehicles per year. The plant is expected to begin commercial production by 2015. The process of homologation, the process certifying that a vehicle is roadworthy in line with government criteria, was completed for the Isuzu vehicles recently at Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), Pune. Isuzu will concentrate on the production of pick-ups and SUVs in India, with the initial plan being to produce the sports utility vehicle MU7 Choiz with a three litre engine and the V Cross which is a mounted pick-up with a 2.5-litre engine.
