Larsen & Toubro, the concessionaire for the elevated Hyderabad Metro Rail project, has awarded South Korean company Hyundai Rotem the contract to supply engines and train sets for the metro rail. Hyundai Rotem will supply the rolling stocks nine months before each stage of the project is commissioned. Besides this, the tenders received for the supply of signalling and train control equipment are being scrutinised and the vendors will be selected within a month. Bids have been received from seven companies including Siemens, Nippon, Thales and Bombardier for these tenders. Other tenders for which vendors have yet to be finalised are track works, automatic fare collection and communication systems.
