There are multiple challenges to implement smart transportation projects. One of the key challenges lies with limited infrastructure available for the roads. In India most of the land is in the brownfield category, so it becomes difficult to create an elevated highway road or underground road. The cost, time and process of land acquisition remains a key challenge for smart transportation projects.
Government Plans
The government has taken several initiatives like Developing BRTS-Bus Rapid Transit System, Metro, Monorail and Electric Buses. These are some of the revolutionary steps which will bring huge reform. The central government is expected to launch seven Greenfield projects to construct 3,000km of expressways under the Rs 5.35 trillion under Bharatmala scheme. In the first phase, the road network is set to connect Delhi- Vadodara, Chennai-Salem in Tamil Nadu, Kharagpur-Siliguri in West Bengal, Delhi-Bilaspur, Durg-Aurang in Chhattisgarh, Mangaluru-Chitradurga in Karnataka and Ambala-Kathputli in Haryana. The longest stretch of 1,000km will be built between Delhi and Vadodara.
Public Private Partnership
The Private Public Partnership Model is hugely successful globally. So far five airports have been developed under this model – Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Kochi. While Delhi and Mumbai – were brownfield projects. The airports in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kochi were Greenfield. The other examples include, Hyderabad Metro, Delhi Airport Metro Express Line and many highway projects. The security industry can also be hugely benefitted by the PPP Model.
Highway and Tunnel Security
In any big highway projects, Tunnel is a major part, and in the Tunnel, one can’t have the natural light. In this scenario the Video Surveillance Camera Technology needs to adapt the latest available options.
Dark Fighter PTZ Cameras and Video Incident detection system, are the way forward. Today video surveillance technology has evolved to such a level that even in the Tunnel and with artificial light, highest optimum image and videos can be captured. Also Emergency call box can be installed in different part of tunnel. In case of any panic situation, it can be used. Through fiber connectivity tunnel or highway can be monitored through the command and control center. Video Incident detection system can help to achieve efficiency in highway management, where command center will come to know which vehicle is taking wrong route. It will help to detect, which vehicle is parked for long. It can monitor and detect any pedestrian crossing the highway.
Innovations in AI Technology
The key innovations in Highway and tunnel security is use of Automatic Number Plate cameras at all the critical areas, these ANPR cameras helps to identify number plate of vehicle passing through toll plaza as well as the highway or tunnel.
AI Based Video Surveillance Camera and Emergency boxes are bringing new innovations like Vehicle classification, monitoring, driver behaviour, speed of vehicle in highway, etc. Also single camera can monitor three lanes, which will also add as big tool in creating cost effective solution. A major innovation is happening in AI Based technology that is empowering the latest video surveillance solutions.
Hikvision’s ITMS offers safe, smooth and intelligent traffic management solutions. These solutions include Video Surveillance, Speed Detection, Red Light Violation Detection (RLVD), Highway Event Detection, Illegal Parking, Mobile Enforcement and Traffic Volume Detection. These solutions are implemented in Assam and West Bengal states and Vizag city. HIKvision also offer E-Challan System for Traffic Violations like red-light violation, triple riding, driving without helmet, driving without seatbelt, wrong-side driving, etc.
