There are multiple challenges to implement smart transportation projects. One of the key challenges lies with limited infrastructure available for the roads. The cost, time and process of land acquisition remains a key challenge for smart transportation projects.
Government Plans
The government has taken several initiatives like Developing BRTS-Bus Rapid Transit System, Metro, Monorail and Electric Buses. These are some of the revolutionary steps which will bring huge reform. The central government is expected to launch seven Greenfield projects to construct 3,000km of expressways under the Rs 5.35 trillion under Bharatmala scheme. In the first phase, the road network is set to connect Delhi- Vadodara, Chennai-Salem in Tamil Nadu, Kharagpur-Siliguri in West Bengal, Delhi-Bilaspur, Durg-Aurang in Chhattisgarh, Mangaluru-Chitradurga in Karnataka and Ambala-Kathputli in Haryana.The longest stretch of 1,000km will be built between Delhi and Vadodara.
Public Private Partnership
The Private Public Partnership Model is hugely successful globally. So far five airports have been developed under this model – Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Kochi. While Delhi and Mumbai – were brownfield projects. The airports in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kochi were Greenfield. The other examples include, Hyderabad Metro, Delhi Airport Metro Express Line and many highway projects. The security industry can also be hugely benefitted by the PPP Model.
