WSSTL, a pioneering global initiative to address the critical challenges of urban mobility and liveability, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange to develop innovative, equitable, and sustainable transportation solutions, will be held from June 25-27, at J. N. Tata Auditorium, IISc Campus, Bengaluru. The Symposium is jointly organized by the Special Interest Group (SIG-F4) of the World Conference on Transport Research Society (WCTRS) and the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru with support from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Themes
The symposium is structured around several key themes: Transport and well-being examines the role of sustainable mobility in enhancing physical, mental, economic, and social well-being. Transport, health, and happiness, delves into how mobility choices impact individual and societal health outcomes. The theme of Transport and liveability, focuses on the role of transportation in shaping urban environments that are accessible, safe, and inclusive. Discussions will highlight strategies such as the “15-minute city” concept, pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, and spatial planning for sustainable urban growth. The transport, equity, and accessibility will explore how mobility solutions can be designed to be more inclusive, ensuring that all individuals—including those from marginalized communities—have equal access to safe and affordable transportation.
Transport, environmental quality, and disaster resilience is another crucial area of focus investigating how sustainable transport can contribute to reducing emissions, improving air quality, and enhancing the resilience of urban transport systems against extreme weather events and disasters. Additionally, WSSTL-2025 will cover emerging aspects of transport and liveability, including the role of technology, artificial intelligence, and digitalization in creating smarter and more liveable urban environments.
WSSTL will feature keynote addresses from distinguished scholars and experts in the field of sustainable transport, including Prof. Günter Emberger (Technical University of Vienna), Prof. Maria Attard (University of Malta), and Prof. Ahmed El-Geneidy (McGill University, Canada). Plenary and technical sessions will facilitate in-depth discussions on latest research, policy frameworks, and real-world case studies from diverse urban contexts. There will be guided mobility tours, offering participants first-hand exposure to Bengaluru’s innovative mobility solutions.
