Police to keep watch 24×7 of Ambala- Delhi highway. Automatic challan system

Delhi highway

Haryana Police has launched the “Third Eye” project to enhance road safety and traffic management on the Ambala-New Delhi National Highway (NH-44). Covering the 180-km stretch from Ambala to the Kundli border, the project includes 128 CCTV surveillance cameras installed at 19 locations, monitored from a central control room in Karnal. Equipped with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and evidence cameras, this surveillance technology ensures motorists violating traffic rules are automatically penalized under an advanced challan system.

Advanced ANPR System to Track Traffic Violations

At nine locations along NH-44, ANPR cameras have been integrated with Haryana Police’s Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS). This setup allows for real-time monitoring of vehicles, tracking stolen or criminally involved vehicles, and recording the complete history of offenders. The project also uses drones to detect traffic violations, expanding its surveillance reach. The enhanced system aims to foster public awareness campaigns about road safety and ensure compliance with traffic rules.

Road Safety Initiatives and Public Cooperation

Haryana Police has emphasized the importance of public cooperation in making roads safer. The DGP has urged motorists to abide by speed limits and participate in public awareness campaigns and activities aimed at promoting road safety. The new surveillance technology not only detects traffic violations but also boosts the feeling of security among drivers travelling on the highway.

Free Emergency Treatment for Accident Victims

As part of a broader road safety initiative, Haryana Police, in collaboration with the state health department, has introduced a scheme offering free treatment of up to ₹1.5 lakh during the golden hour following road accidents. Injured persons are treated at civil hospitals, Primary Health Centers (PHCs), Community Health Centers (CHCs), and other contracted private hospitals. This pilot project ensures timely medical assistance while improving coordination between hospitals and local police, further strengthening Haryana’s commitment to road safety.
