Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari stated that the Government was promoting the use of non-polluting sources to power personal and public transportation by bringing in cost-effective, pollution-free and indigenous solutions. Indian Oil was installing 300 ethanol pumps and automobile companies were bringing in flex vehicles that would run on 60% electricity and 40% ethanol which was far cheaper than petrol and less polluting. The Minister also announced that a pilot project was underway in Nagpur involving a 132-seater bus with airplane-like seating and a “bus hostess”.
