Work begins on Navi Mumbai Metro Rail

Work on the first phase of line between Belapur and Pendhar for the much-awaited Navi Mumbai Metro Rail (NMMR) has begun. The work has been undertaken by the state-run planning agency CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation). It has based its work on the detailed project report (DPR) prepared by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

The first phase of 21.45 km will cover 11.1km for Belapur-Pendhar, 2.2km for Pendhar to MIDC and 8.15km for the MIDC to Khandeshwar sections. The general consultants for NMMR are Louis Berger Group Inc and Balaji Rail Road Systems Ltd. The latter is also a member of the consortium of NMMR.
