The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will implement a र11,000 crore project to widen roads and build new flyovers in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. As a part of the project, five flyovers will be constructed – two in Thane, two in Kalyan, and one in Bhiwandi. The Arnala-Virar-Kaner-Shirsad-Ambadi State Road, the Padgha-Vishind Road, the Kalyan-Badlapur-Karjat-Hal Phata State Road and the road from Karjat to Chowk State will be quadrupled while the NH8 stretch from Nalasopara to Nirmal and the state roads from Katai Naka to Badlapur will also be developed and widened.
The MMRDA has also invited public participation, suggestions and objections to its plans to develop 27 villages in Kalyan and Ambernath Talukas and 60 villages in Bhiwandi Taluka in Thane District as growth centres. Taking cue from its successful installation of noise barriers in the Bandra-Kurla Complex where noise decibel levels have dropped from 75db to 60db, the Authority has decided to install noise barriers on all the roads and flyovers constructed by it.
