Maruti Suzuki to introduce diesel engine for mid-size sedan

Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) is working on a diesel engine for its mid size sedans. MSI engineers working on the project are expected to complete it by mid 2011. Three of Maruti’s current models Switft, DZiRE and Ritz use Fiat diesel engines. MSI will first use the new diesel engine for the diesel version of its premium sedan SX4. The company is scheduled to open two more production units at its Manesar facility by 2011 and a third one in 2013. The total production capacity of MSI is 12 lakh units a year. Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), MSI’s parent company, plans to make India an export hub for its small cars, mainly for the European and African markets.
