Lohegaon airport will be modernised

Lohegaon Airport of Pune that handles about 7000 passengers every day from its 40 flights will undergo expansion in various departments soon. For this, the Airports Authority of India has planned projects like a swanky administrative complex, new hangars to accommodate unscheduled small aircrafts of private companies that operate from Pune and a canopy towards the city-side of the airport terminal building. The aircrafts, at present, are regularly parked at the airport. The projects are expected to be completed in a year.

The posh administrative complex will be of ground plus two floors near the entrance of the airport terminal building. It will have a VIP lounge that will have direct and independent access to the terminal building. This is expected to reduce congestion at the time of arrival or departure of a VIP. The AAI offices, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) offices that are now on the first floor of the main terminal building and even the existing power station near the entrance gate will be shifted to the new block. This will create more space in the terminal building which can be utilised for other services.
