Kochi Metro gets land acquisition powers

The Kerala government has given Kochi Metro the power to acquire land directly from farmers and other land holders, a step aimed at speeding up the project. The government has made available funds worth Rs. 70cr for land acquisition for the widening of the Vyttila-Petta stretch, which involves the acquisition of 3.0138 hectares. Besides this, the state government has also directed the Kerala Water Authority to complete pending pipe laying work in project areas on a priority basis and hand over the areas to DMRC, which is building the project.
