Knowledge Sessions that were a class apart

The post-lunch session on Railways as the Mobility backbone of the future had Ramana Reddy, Chief Engineer, South Central Railway share his views on ‘Developing Indian Railway Stations: Design led and user-friendly approach’. In the session on Future Mobility Challenges and Solutions, M Ramsekhar, Executive Director & Joint CEO, Delhi Integrated Multi- Modal Transit Systems Ltd chaired and moderated the panel discussion on Multi Modal Transport: Going Beyond Technological Collaboration. The power-packed panel had Pravin Goyal, Director – Systems, Kochi Metro Rail Ltd; NVS Reddy, IRAS, Managing Director, Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd; Pawan K Mulukutla, Head – Integrated Transport, WRI India; and R Venkatesh, Director, Magnetic Auto Control as the panelists. The same session had an address on ‘Digital Transaction and Common Mobility Card’ by PT Suresh, Co-Founder & Director, PayCraft Solutions Pvt Ltd and on ‘Intelligent Solution for Mobility & Transportation Application’ by Saikumar Sankar, Vertical Head – Transportation, HIKVision India.

Some points of the discussions were: Travel by private vehicles has increased; Railway tracks haven’t risen much in the last 50 years; We have to make more efficient utilization of our roads; and Share taxis are becoming popular because they cost us Rs 20 to 40 per km as against Rs 30 to 40 that our personal vehicles cost us and they make our eco system more efficient by reducing pollution.Dr Gerhard Ploss

On the concluding day of the seminars too, it was a day of serious and meaningful discussions on ‘Smart Cities Enabling Mobility and Management of Surface Parking. M Mahendar Reddy, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City Police, made a presentation on a Case Study on “Hyderabad — Smart and Safe City”. He said, “We have taken initiatives in Traffic Management, Intelligence Collection and Data Analytics. Using the data, we would always like to be ahead of the violator”. He specially mentioned the Toll Eye App that uses the technology for better traffic management in the state. Praising the organisers for the shows and the seminars, he said, “Such shows bring every solution under one roof and I am very happy to find many parking solutions here that can be used. I am happy that you have brought this show to Telangana. The discussions too were very fruitful”.

S Rama Krishna, Senior Vice President at Urban Mass Transit Company Limited gave a Consultant’s perspective on ‘Implementation of Smart City with Focus on Smart Mobility’.

Ravin Mirchandani, Chairman of Ador Powerton Limited made a presentation on ‘Innovation in Road Safety Systems to protect commuters’. His presentation was followed by the last panel discussion on the third day of the Expos on ‘Management of Surface Parking’. Chaired and moderated by Dr Rajesh Krishnan, CEO, ITS Planners and Engineers Pvt Ltd, it had Dierk Grunzig, Consultant, Smart Parking, Parking Guidance & Mobility, CAP Consulting; Sachin Naik Founder & CEO, Play Time Media (I) Pvt Ltd, Wilfred Menezes, Managing Director & CEO, Omnitec Group – Middle East, Africa & India; and Rm Alagappan, Senior Manager, Urban Mass Transit Company Ltd as the panelists.
