Karnataka plans bullet trains

The Karnataka government plans to introduce high-speed bullet trains between the country’s IT hub Bangalore and cities such as Mysore, Belgaum and Gulbarga in the northern region of the state. The bullet trains will reduce the travel distance between Bangalore and the cities by about 50 to 60 percent. The project requires dedicated tracks, exclusive coaches and high-power connectivity. The government is in talks with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to prepare a detailed project report (DPR). Railways being a central subject, the state government plans to approach the central government and the Indian Railways to join in as partners in the project. It will also seek assistance from the World Bank and other international agencies.
