German Transport Minister emphasises electric mobility

Peter Ramsauer, German Minister for Transport, Building and Urban Development on a three day visit to India, highlighted the importance of electric mobility by building more electric cars. The Minister emphasised the importance of building an energy efficient transport sector and the commitment of the German government in promoting electric mobility. Germany hopes to have about a million electric vehicles on German roads in a decade as against the 1500 it has at present. Ramsauer met with Vayalar Ravi, Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs and Civil Aviation, Kamal Nath, Minister for Urban Development and Praful Patel, Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises. The Indo-German Joint Working Group (JWG) has three sub-groups – a technology group, an institutional cooperation group and a training & skill development group. The JWG will discuss the efforts and activities of these three sub-groups. Ramsauer and Patel discussed areas of mutual cooperation between Germany and India such as an electric mobility plan in India, on-going cooperation in the automotive sector and a future road map for India’s auto fuel policy.
