Major infrastructure companies such as Punj Lyod, Essar, Gammon, GMR, GVK, Soma, CRFG, Leighton and IL&FS Aldesa have expressed interest for constructing a 400km stretch of the 1,839km long Eastern Freight Corridor. The Corridor is being constructed by the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL), the special purpose vehicle of the Ministry of Railways for construction of the Dedicated Freight Corridor which is estimated to cost ? 95,000crore. DFCCIL has sent the companies? queries to the World Bank which is funding 1,100km of the Corridor between Ludhiana and Mughalsarai. The Railways itself is funding 122 km between Mughalsarai and Sonnagar while the remaining 534km between Sonnagar and Dankuni will be funded through the PPP model. DFCCIL will issue Requests for Proposals after the World Bank gives its approval for the project.
