In an interesting development, Alstom and Bombardier will use highly skilled Indian engineers and skilled labour for building and exporting the coaches for Metro. The first project will be Alstom’s Sydney (Australia) project that will receive railway coaches from India. These coaches will be made at the company’s manufacturing hub in South India. Alstom is eyeing the markets in Southeast Asia and the Middle East too.
In a similar manner, Bombardier has set up its manufacturing unit in Gujarat and transportation engineering services in Gurgaon. It will be exporting 450 metro rail coaches to Australia. It will also supply components to Brazil, Saudi Arabia and Australia.
Companies including Suzuki Motor Corp, Ford, Renault SA and Hyundai have already been exporting from India to Europe, South America and Africa.
