Fiat India has launched a skill development programme to train poor children and deliver highly skilled manpower for the manufacturing industries, especially the automobile industry. The programme Diksha, in collaboration with Don Bosco Vyawasaik Prashikshan Kendra, Pune will be conducted at the FIAT & Don Bosco Experiential Skill Training Centre at Chinchwad, Pune. Two courses will be conducted under the programme: 1. Multi Brand Basic Automobiles Awareness for four wheelers and 2. The Centre of Excellence. The first course is a short term course of four months which will have three batches in a year with each batch having twenty five students. The second course, with 20 students per batch, will be for two years and will be equivalent to the ITI courses in Maharashtra. Both the courses are accredited by the National Council for Vocational Training – New Delhi and will have Joint Certification from FIAT and Don Bosco. Fiat India will support the improvement of capabilities of the trainers and teachers. It will also provide internships for students at its factory and its dealership network, in addition to providing access to the company’s vehicles, workshop equipment, teaching aids and training materials. Don Bosco will select the students, conduct the courses and get accreditation for all the courses from the government.
