The Delhi government is planning to upgrade its three existing bus terminals and coming up with four new bus terminals offering a world-class experience with an array of civic facilities — beginning from cloak room & waiting areas to automated water dispensing units, toilets, kiosks for payment of utility bills and para-transit services. The other features will be facilitated like ramps and wheel-chairs for the specially-abled persons, provisions of common mobility card recharge centres and arrangements for notification of bus timings using GPS.
Going by the design for new Nehru Place Bus Terminal, it will have table-top crossings, cycle stands for parking private cycles as well as bikes-on-rent, waiting areas integrated with a crèche/ play area and e-kiosk for bill payments.
The tree-shaped plaza — with aerodynamic futuristic canopy and rainwater harvesting tanks — is designed to serve as a landmark to the hub. It will also make place for small shops and hawkers. The Delhi Integrated Multi-modal Transit System will be the management consultant for the upgraded bus terminal at Nehru Place.
