Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd Metro route to have a Circle of Influence

Areas around metro stations in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) will be developed as “Circle of Influence”. This concept initiated by UPS Madan, Director, MTSU, involves an area of 500 square metres around metro stations to be developed as business hubs. For this, the government will give out incentives like higher FSI as it would help get a favourable response. According to Madan, the concept theoretically has excellent potential but it would be difficult to implement it inside Mumbai. It is planned that it could begin with routes that are not planned on a congested alignment. Mumbai will have 150km of metro and the rest of the metropolitan region will have 300km. This initiative is expected to immensely boost the development of the area. A proposal on the concept has been sent to the empowered committee. Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd route will be taken up as the pilot project.
