Bangaloreans are all set to get automated car parking with the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) coming up with a plan to install thirteen Automated Verticular Car Parking Towers throughout the city. The BBMP has chosen Hyderabad-based Bhrigu Realty and Telco Automotive Limited (TAL) for executing the project. The automated towers will be built under public-private-partnership (PPP). Each parking tower will be a 10-storey building which can hold up to 400 parked cars. Each vehicle will be lifted to a particular level, and retrieved down, using an elevator shaft. The parked vehicles will be stacked on top of each other. The entire operation will be transparent with users getting a parking token.
To ensure the smooth functioning of the parking towers, the Standing Committee of the BBMP has proposed a new parking policy for Bangalore which will be placed before the monthly Council meeting. After approval by the Council, the project report will be sent to the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) for further approval. ‘No Parking’ zones will be strictly implemented around the parking towers by the Bangalore Traffic Police. The parking towers are expected to generate revenue for the municipal corporation in two streams – parking fee and advertisement fee from hoardings which will cover the building from outside.
