In a bid to provide enhanced safety and security for the rail passengers, a high-level committee of South-Central Railway (SCR) decided to install as many as 218 CCTV cameras in the three main railway stations in Telangana.
The committee held its meeting under the chairmanship of Additional Director General of Police (Railways and Road Safety), T Krishna Prasad at Rail Nilayam in Hyderabad city. The committee discussed various issues like security and easing of congestion at Railway stations in view of the growth in passenger traffic. It was decided at the meeting to install 130 CCTV cameras at the Secunderabad Railway Station, 39 at Nampally and 29 in Kacheguda Railway Stations. The committee also decided to install baggage scanners at entrance points.
It was also decided to design a master plan for making parking arrangements, enforcement of lane discipline, removal of vehicles parked for long time on the premises of railway stations, regulation of hackers and prevention of harassment of passengers by autorickshaw drivers by installing pre-booking facilities inside the railway stations.
The committee decided to hold regular coordination meetings with railways, GHMC, RTC and traffic police for seamless movement of people and vehicles in and out of railway stations.
