Have you undertaken any innovation activity in the past year?
The domain expertise and experience garnered in the last decade with the Indian and international exposure drives the will of Efkon India team to come up with technological innovation. Efkon is grateful to the clients for believing in us and giving us the necessary support for implementing these features in addition to the regular toll and traffic management systems. Some of the improvements are listed as under:
- RFID based electronic tolling in all lanes of plaza: Efkon is the first company in India to have implemented complete RFID based electronic tolling in a plaza in all lanes.
- Recharge of ETC tags and smart cards in toll lanes: POS traditionally has been a part of the control centre. Going to the toll plaza control room to recharge their accounts has always been a pain point for the road user. This has proved to be one of the reasons for less popularity of ETC. To have an easier option, we have implemented the concept of recharge in the lane itself. The lane engines are equipped with the necessary software and hardware for doing the recharge. The user needn’t go the control room all the way as he can get the recharge at the lane itself.
- Bleed off concept: For plazas where the revenue generation is on the higher side, excessive cash handling in the lanes becomes a problem. The bleed off feature included in our system takes care of this particular issue. The toll operator does cash-up while continuing the shift operations. This is then linked to the final cash-up at the end of the shift.
- Revenue and traffic information graphs on LSDU: The Lane Status Display Unit (LSDU) shows the real-time status of the lane equipment. Additionally, we have incorporated the feature where all the traffic and revenue information at a particular time is displayed graphically. This graphical representation makes it easy for the toll plaza manager to have a quick update on the go.
- Video Incident Detection System (VIDS): In short, the VIDS is installed at critical junctions to give instant alarms to the Road Management team in case of accidents, traffic violations and even vehicular break-downs at these locations. This ensures minimal time delay in sending fast response teams in case of any incident at the critical locations.
- Speed Monitoring and Vehicle Recognition System: Over-speeding is the biggest cause of accidents on highways. For addressing such issues, we have implemented speed monitoring and vehicle recognition system. The system measures the spot speed of the vehicle as well as the number plates. It also measures the average speed of the vehicle over sections of the road. Errand users could be identified at toll plazas, be given ‘speed-tickets’ and handed over to authorities for enforcement.
- Vehicle Tracking System: Is for vehicles in the toll plaza area like the ambulance, patrol vehicle, etc., to know the exact location of these vehicles at any particular time. This helps in easy tracking and reliable communication through the mobile radio systems.
