Tallest rail bridge over Chenab river

The world’s tallest railway bridge is being constructed over the Chenab river in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district after its alignment was found safe by a team of IIT-Delhi. The Chenab rail bridge, slated to be 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris (324m high), is a crucial link in the 125km Katra-Banihal rail link. An IIT-Delhi team headed by Prof K S Rao carried out safety tests of the proposed 359-metre-high bridge and found that the bridge construction fulfils all safety parameters. The construction of the bridge was temporarily halted in July 2008 after concerns were raised over its safety and alignment.
