Seminar on reducing carbon footprint

With the increasing focus on reducing carbon emissions and the greenhouse effect, the Indian Road Congress (IRC), in combination with the World Road Association (PIARC), IRF and AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) organised a three-day seminar in February in New Delhi on “Reducing Carbon Footprint in Road Construction” Techniques to reduce carbon emission in road construction and design were discussed, and experiences of member countries from around the world were shared at the seminar. New, pioneering approaches to road construction such as path-breaking bituminisation methods, usage of local materials and recycling of materials were also discussed. The seminar was a result of a MOU signed by the IRC and PIARC to enhance cooperation among the two organisations.
