Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated Phase I (Aarey–BKC) of the underground Metro 3 corridor and also launched other infrastructure projects in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. He also launched the Metroconnect3 app at the function in Thane. The project is supported by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the PM expressed his gratitude to the Japanese Government and said that key infrastructure projects like the Versova-Bandra sea link, the Eastern Freeway, the Thane-Borivli tunnel and the Thane Circular Metro Rail will be transforming the City.The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Pune Metro line connecting District Court to Swargate which marked the completion of Phase-1 recently. The other projects kick started by the PM were Swargate-Katraj Metro extension and Solapur Airport. The airport’s terminal building has been upgraded to accommodate approximately 410,000 passengers each year.
Another important service that got started recently has been India’s first Vande Bharat metro service between Bhuj and Ahmedabad. The service, now known as Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, is based on the cross-country trains in Europe. The train will run at a speed of 110 kmph increasing connectivity with Ahmedabad city.
