The Goa government has unveiled a master plan to develop the city of Panaji in a holistic manner. The contract for the project has been awarded to Spain-based LKS India Pvt Ltd by the Goa state infrastructure development corporation (GSIDC). LLKS engineers have been studying the different parts of the city to identify parts that need improvements such as the transport system and traffic congestion problems. The plan includes a revamp of the public transport system, and has proposed seven efficient bus routes with a bus frequency of 5-12 minutes. For the parking problems of the city, the plan has suggested having free parking areas just outside Panaji, and well-connected to the rest of the city through a shuttle service. There will also be exclusive pedestrian and cycling-only zones to encourage the use of bicycles and walking.
