The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will build tunnels and bridges on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in a bid to stem the rising number of accidents on the expressway. The ?2,600 crore project involves putting up two sets of parallel bridges and tunnels at various places on the expressway, which will also extend the length of the expressway by about 100km. Additional safety measures include the installation of 100 CCTV cameras and signs along the highway, reducing sharp curves and banning U-turns. Two truck terminals will be constructed for truck drivers to rest. The proposal awaits final clearance from the Maharashtra state government.
