Kolkata metro tests UPI-based ticketing system

A trial of the UPI based ticketing system was conducted at Sealdah station of East-West line recently as the Kolkata Metro railway authorities with the help of State Bank of India and Centre for Railway Information systems are planning to introduce a Unified Payment Interface ticketing system. Once tested successfully, this ticketing system will be introduced in East-West Metro (Green Line).

In order to avail this facility, commuters will have to input destination station name and scan the QR Code displayed on the dual display board at the ticket counters and make the payment with the help of their smartphones following which QR Code Based paper tickets will be generated.
