The West Bengal state government will soon install intelligent transport systems on its recently rolled out air-conditioned buses. The public sector undertaking Urban Mass Transit Company Limited will prepare a detailed project report. The project will give a facelift to the city’s mass transportation system and commuters will be able to exactly locate the buses on their mobile phones with the help of a GPS-global positioning system. An integrated control room will monitor the movement of fleet and generate information on it. The movement of the GPRS-fitted vehicles will be tracked with the help of satellite linkage and electronic display boards at bus stops will flash it.
