Work on Phase IB of the Jaipur metro began this October. This consists of a 1.4km long tunnel and 400m of-and-cover tunnel being constructed by the Indian office of Taiwanese company Continental Engineering Corp. The company will also design and construct two underground stations, under a `5.07bn, 36-month contract. Meanwhile test runs are being carried out on a 2.4km section of Phase1A of the Jaipur Metro between Mansarovar and Shyam Nagar. Full service on the Mansarovar ? Chandpole section of the Green Line is expected to begin in late 2013 or early 2014. The metro uses a standard gauge line electrified at 25kV and a fleet of 10 four-car trainsets supplied by BEML under a `3.18bn contract awarded in 2011.
