The Gujarat government has put the Rs. 19,000cr Gandhinagar-Ahmedabad metro project on the fast track. Work on the first phase of the project is scheduled to begin in October. The project which is based on the advanced Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) technology will have driverless trains in the near future. The Special Purpose Vehicle for the project has begun talks with the Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO) of the Railways for design of coaches and other aspects of the project.
