Dubai to get more speed radars

Dubai will get 100 more speed radar systems to strengthen enforcement against speeding on the emirate?s roads. The new cameras will also be installed at major traffic intersections to enable detection of motorists jumping red lights and speeding up to catch the green lights. Dubai currently has about 450 speed radars and 230 cameras installed at different points. The Road Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai is constantly conducting studies of traffic accidents to classify locations that require more monitoring and control. In 2011, radar cameras detected more than 1.5 million speed violations, an increase of 115,000 over the previous year. Also, about 19,000 red light violation tickets were issued in 2011, an increase of 1,200 over the previous year.
