As traditional measures were no longer sufficient to tackle urban transport challenges, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has proposed a double-decker bus system that would operate above ground level ferrying 120-150 passengers, as an innovative transport solution to address the growing problem of traffic congestion in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun. Beyond traffic management, the broader role of technology and sustainability in India’s development, particularly the production of green hydrogen fuel was underlined as also the importance of transitioning towards cleaner transport options, including electric and mechanised vehicles.
