Encouraged by the increasing pace of privatisation of roads and highways in India and Turkey, Brisa Auto Estradas de Portugal SA, Portugal’s biggest toll-road company with significant operations in the United States and the Netherlands, is looking for opportunities to expand in these two countries. It has sold off a majority of its stake in Cia de Concessoes Rodoviarias SA, Brazil’s biggest toll-road operator. In India, the company plans to begin by bidding for a contract to operate and manage a highway in Mumbai. Brisa plans to have international projects eventually to take up thirty to forty percent of its sales.
