The eight kilometer stretch of the first phase of Hyderabad Metro Rail between Nagole and Mettuguda, work on which is currently going on full stream, is all set to be opened to commuters by March 2015. The project will be completed by the end of December 2014 and trial runs will be held until March 2015. Major infrastructure of 200 skywalks, quality public spaces at metro stations with street furniture, bicycle tracks and parking, footpaths and other pedestrian facilities in the Metro corridors will also be built as a part of the Urban Redesign Program to make Hyderabad a global destination and an eco-friendly city. The construction of 823 foundations, 655 piers and 201 span lengths has been completed so far and the work at Uppal and Miyapur depots is also progressing quickly.
