30 water ports on the Ganga

The government is setting up 30 water ports on the Ganga as inland waterways will be a “game- changer” for increasing exports and reducing cost of goods as well as passenger traffic.

Developing waterways are very important for India as only 3.50% of goods & passenger traffic is on water. In China it is 47%, in Korea it is 43% and in Japan it is 44%. Waterways, with use of LNG as fuel, can reduce logistics cost.
