UNION BUDGET RESPONSE – Amit Bhatt

  • Amit Bhatt

As per the 2011 census, the average trip length for work trips in India was 5 km and trips greater than 10 km were only 16%. Also, 3/4th of the motor vehicles sold in India are two and three-wheelers. This means that Indians travel for shorter distances and use smaller form factors.

  • Therefore, electrification of transport in India will require a different approach from developed countries.
  • The announcement of a battery swapping policy with interoperability standards will surely boost the electrification of transport at a mass scale.
  • In addition to cleaning the air, it will also create sustainable and innovative business models for battery and energy as a service, thereby giving rise to employment potential.
