E Sreedharan to be part of Railways expert team

The Central Government has decided to induct into the Railway Board E Sreedharan, former Managing Director, Delhi Metro and Principal Advisor, Kochi Metro Rail & Chief Advisor, proposed Lucknow Metro. Sreedharan will assist the Railways in its quest to become accident-free and increase the speed of trains.

Tax benefits for road safety donations

The Central government has introduced a 50% tax exemption for contributions made by companies towards road safety causes and projects. This is expected to encourage increased contributions from firms towards road safety projects and events as a part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drive.

Urban transport tax in the offing

The central government is planning to introduce a one-time urban transport tax on private vehicles in an effort to encourage use of public transport and discourage the use of private vehicles.
