Speed calming measures taken by the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) have helped in reducing the number of road fatalities by 22% in the civic limits during the first eight months of the year as compared to the corresponding period last year, based on police records. The total number of accidents also declined from 338 last year to 325 this year. A series of meetings among the district administration, police, NMC and NHAI on measures to prevent road accidents resulted in the corporation conducting a survey and identifying over 300 black spots in the city. The city administration installed speed breakers as part of a precautionary measure to prevent accidents at these spots. Most of the speed breakers were also converted into hump speed breakers. Installation of signboards and painting of white strips were also undertaken at these spots.
