The contract to design a 14km metro line for the planned Hyderabad Metro has gone to RMJM, the internationally famous architectural firm. One of the three metro lines to be built for the city, it will have 13 elevated stations and two interchange stations. The latter will be about 5,000sqm in size with one of the stations connecting the metro line to the 74-platform Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station. The Metro, which will feature automatic trains, will have a total length of 71.16km and will be integrated with bus stops and the existing suburban railway network in the city. It will use the latest metro cars, signalling and communication systems. The contract for the metro, to be built by Larsen and Toubro, is the biggest (Public Private Partnership) metro sector contract ever awarded in the world.
