Car maker Nissan is testing a new type of paint called Ultra-Ever Dry on the European version of its model Note. The paint which is super-hydrophobic and oleophobic repels water and oil by maintaining a layer of air between the paint and water, mud or grimy road spray. The paint has responded well to common use cases including rain, spray, frost, sleet and standing water. The company has produced a video showing tests of the car. It doe not have plans to use the self-cleaning paint technology on its production cars, but will consider it as an aftermarket option.
