Lucknow Metro: Nawab of All

Safety First

UPMRCL ensured every potential risk to be addressed during the planning stage itself, ensuring no incident shall happen during project execution. Contractors have been asked to submit working methodologies related to all critical work like piling activity, lifting of heavy strictures, deep excavations etc. All method statements were then reviewed by LMRC engineers, and the possible suitable suggestion was added to it, ensuring safe execution of the project. LMRC completed the total section of 23 km and delivered it to the public in stipulated time and within sanctioned amount by adopting new and modern techniques:

1 Use of Precast structures helped in saving a lot of time for project execution
2 The casting of U-girder and tunnel segments in casting yards resulted in less wastage and resource conservation
3 Waterless chemical curing of concrete structures saved time and water.
4 Only metro in the world to have a rooftop CCTV camera fully integrated to inside CCTV network for continuous monitoring of Pantograph
5 100% LED light usage in stations and inside the train. Modern lightweight stainless steel metro Rolling stock with latest Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling systems.

Lucknow Metro is fully prepared with the highest safety and security norms. Lucknow Metro Rolling Stocks (Metro trains) have been equipped with the most modern CCTV cameras installed inside Metro coaches, the state-of-the-art signalling and telecommunication system, Passenger Emergency Alarm (PEA) buttons, fire and smoke detectors, emergency exits etc. All stations are installed with CCTVs, detectors, scanners, metal detectors etc. to inspect Metro stations for 24 Hours. Metro Stations are earthquake resistant and have been designed to sustain the seismic force.

Digitisation

Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Big Data Analysis are the future of the tech industry and Kumar Keshav wants to utilise these technologies to serve the people better. He said, “We plan to use AI and IoT, to utilise the resources that we use in a better way, to predict the changing needs of transportation by the people. We need to analyze people movement trend, their use of app-based taxi services, demographic trends for transportation among other things. The use of emerging technology is essential for this purpose.”

Energy Saving

Lucknow Metro took several energy conservation measures such as use of regenerative braking in the trains which will result in saving of 30 to 35% traction energy thereby resulting in reduction in emission of Green House Gases (GHG), use of 1% criteria for underground stations in the AC system for the stations, using Variable Voltage Variable Frequency (VVVF) drive for all lifts and escalators, provision of LED lights at stations, use of energy-efficient equipment for Environment Control System (ECS) and Tunnel Ventilation System (TVS) system for the underground section etc.

Solar panels 10 KW has been installed at the roof of Transport Nagar Receiving Sub Station (RSS) of LMRC which is operational and is providing clean electrical energy to the company. Besides, rooftop 12 KW solar panels have also been installed at the roof of Lucknow Metro’s Administrative Building, Vipin Khand, Gomti Nagar. These initiatives have resulted in time-saving in the execution of the project, creating a green and healthy environment inside the city, generating our electricity and saving electricity by use of the latest available technologies.
