Equipped with Westcode Semiconductors’ insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) and high-power fast recovery diode technology, a new high speed train in Korea – Korail – will be able to run at a speed of 330kmph with a 0-300kmph acceleration time of 316 seconds.
The technology, developed in collaboration with Hyundai Heavy Industry for Korea’s national train operator, Korail also features an improved safe operating area and reduced on-state losses of approximately 25% as compared to the previous KTX I train.
Korail will transport over 38 million passengers to a distance of 22 million kilometres in 2010.
