In tune with Vision 2047

Soon after the formation of the new Government, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways could unveil an ambitious plan for building 50,000 km of new, access-controlled, expressways by 2037 with an aim to reduce logistic costs. This might replace the Bhartamala scheme in tune with the Vision 2047 for the road sector. Implementing GPS-based tolling on select stretches and rolling out a cashless treatment facility for all road accident victims will also get started. Many of the road projects will be bid out on the build-operate-transfer (BOT) mode with greater participation of the private sector. The Ministry will also plan to encourage companies to set up vehicle scrapping centres and giving incentives to vehicle owners to opt for scrapping of their old vehicles.
